Darley Dale is a small town of around 5,000 electorate. It is only just a town, more like a large village and more importantly it has no centre and is split by the very busy trunk road, the A6.
Community cohesion is not strong despite the best efforts of the Town Council.
As a number of residents had expressed a desire to enter the ‘East Midlands in Bloom’ competition the Town Council began to recognise that this initiative could spur community involvement. In June 2014, The Darley Dale in Bloom group setup a new constitution and became independent of the Town Council. Darley Dale in Bloom and the Town Council have signed a Heads of Agreement for the group to take over the design and planting of the flower beds previously the responsibility of the Town Council and the Town Council will be supporting that by providing a grant on an annual basis.
The Committee wish to extend their thanks to the Town Council for their continued support.
